Historic Windows Finally Find New Home at St. John the Evangelist Church in Frederick, MD.

Project #: P-2037
Location: Swoyersville, Pennsylvania
Project Type: Removal, Stained Glass Windows
Date: June 2012

St. Mary’s in Swoyersville, PA held its final mass and closed its doors, leaving behind religious artefacts, including a set of 12 stained-glass windows. King Richard’s stepped in to remove and acquire many of the sacred items, including the window set from the 1940s.

The stunning antique windows were originally crafted by Jacob Renner in 1947. They include depictions of the four Gospel writers and scenes from the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. The windows measure more than 15 ft tall and 6 feet wide.

The stained-glass windows were purchased from King Richard’s then restored and installed as part of the renovation project at St. John’s Evangelist Church in Frederick, Maryland.

In Sept, 2023, St. John the Evangelist Church blessed the windows during their 260th anniversary mass.

King Richards’ role in the procurement of these windows speaks to our commitment to responsible cultural preservation. We are proud that the stained-glass set has found a new home in the church of St. John the Evangelist Church, where they will once again be blessed and appreciated.
