This summer, King Richard’s Liturgical Design returned to Pass Christian, Mississippi, to restore one of the side altars damaged by fire. Back in 2014, our team had the honor of designing, crafting, and installing an entirely custom wooden sanctuary for the church—complete with a reredos, side altars, stained glass windows, a pulpit, and an altar of sacrifice.

Years later, we were called upon once again after an altar candle accidentally ignited a fire that damaged one of the side altar tables. The blaze caused significant harm to the table, which required full replacement. We’re grateful to have played a role in both the church’s original transformation and were happy to help in repairing the damage.

The Fire Damage

The candle fire inflicted the greatest damage on the altar’s mensa and frontal section. The platform sustained burns as well and were needed to be replaced.

Dissassembly and ReAssembly of the Side Altar

The restoration team began by dismantling the damaged altar, carefully identifying and removing pieces that were beyond repair.

Re-creation of the Side Altar Pieces

Once the unsalvageable elements were cleared, re-created replicas of the burnt components were crafted to match the original design.
