King Richard’s recently completed a sanctuary renovation for St. James the Less Catholic Church in Savannah, Georgia.
The project featured the design and creation of several sacred furnishings, including a custom wooden reredos flanked by matching side altars and two statue shrines. Complementary liturgical furniture was also crafted, such as a ambo, a presider’s chair, deacon’s chair, and kneelers. To enrich the visual harmony of the reredos and side altars, custom statues were sculpted by the artists at King Richard’s.
In addition, King Richard’s provided a simple and elegant marble altar of sacrifice and large lit custom frames for the church’s Stations of the Cross collection. All pieces were delivered and installed by our team in June 2025.
Altar of Sacrifice
Crafted by hand from luminous white Carrara marble and graced with Alpha and Omega symbols, the Altar of Sacrifice was the sanctuary’s first arrival. Delivered in carefully hewn segments, it was assembled on-site with precision and reverence. The installation team, attentive to every detail, ensured each piece was placed with care, allowing the altar to stand in solemn dignity—an enduring symbol of sacred purpose.

reredos
The reredos was expertly hand-carved from solid hard-woods and finished in a deep mahogany hue. It is distinguished by its traditional contemporary architectural elements, including soaring spires and elaborately crafted crosses. Centrally positioned within the structure is an altar base intended for the placement of the tabernacle, and the entire ensemble is gracefully adorned with the church’s principal crucifix.

Side Altars and Statue Niches
The side altars and statue niches were meticulously carved, each reflecting the intricate contemporary stylistic elements that include beautiful lattice work and spires that match harmoniously with the architectural composition of the reredos. These alcoves of the niches were appointed with individual statues sourced from the church’s pre-existing collection, and the new side altars received brand new custom statuary crafted by King Richard’s artisans. Collectively, the altars and niches contribute to a cohesive and reverent atmosphere, complementing the sanctuary’s distinguished wooden motif with grace while tying into the new interior of this sacred space.

Ambo, Kneelers, and Presiders and Deacons Chairs
The ambo, kneelers, and chairs were exquisitely carved from hardwoods and finished in a deep mahogany, echoing the warm tones of the sanctuary’s beams and pews. Upholstered in elegant damask blue fabric, each chair and kneeler was designed to reflect the beauty and color palette of the church interior. Delicate latticework integrated into the furnishings mirrors the architectural details of the reredos, creating a unified aesthetic.
Adorned with the revered Chi-Rho symbol, the ambo serves as a striking focal point—its refined craftsmanship in perfect harmony with the lattice-accented reredos behind it.

Stations of the Cross Framing
The church’s Stations of the Cross were in need of proper enhancing, so King Richard’s stepped in to design and craft custom frames for each piece. Beautifully carved from wood, every frame featured a cross at its peak, adding a reverent touch to the design. Once completed, the frames were installed throughout the sanctuary, and each Station was carefully placed within its corresponding frame which are very large and now prominent as Stations of the Cross should be.
