King Richards Team Rescues High Quality Reredos Hidden Behind a Wall In Lockport New York

Project: P-2032
Location: Lockport, New York
Project Type: High Altars, Reredos, Removal
Date: 2018-2019

King Richards team saved  and rescued this historical 1930s High Altar Reredos and its two side altars and altar of sacrifice at a church in Lockport, New York in late 2018-early 2019. The church was previously a catholic church out of the Buffalo New York diocese. The now Baptist church hid the High Altar and its pieces behind a wall before they opened their doors to their community. When King Richards learned about the hidden gem, the team was determined to save the antique item for use in another sacred place.

The KR team carved a hole in the wall (smaller than they wanted) to commence saving the altar and its pieces. Once in the hidden space, the team gracefully disassembled the reredos with care and crated the pieces. The liturgical item now resides in the KR warehouse in hopes of finding a new sacred space to live.
