Watertown, New York— October 9, 2024 — King Richard’s was tasked this past September to remove all liturgical items from the recently closed Sisters of St. Joseph convent in Watertown, New York, following their move to a new location in September. The collection encompassed a range of significant religious artifacts, including the sanctuary’s stained-glass windows, cherished statues, three crucifixes, and a complete set of Stations of the Cross, all located within the Motherhouse chapel and its sanctuary.
The exceptional removal team demonstrated remarkable diligence in meticulously removing and labeling items for re-sale, ensuring both the safe handling of each item and a streamlined process for future transactions. Their attention to detail greatly enhances the overall efficiency of the resale operation, reflecting a commitment to quality service.
The hand-painted Stained-Glass Windows were designed by the Royal Bavarian Institute studio of the FX Zetter stained glass master- craftsman in the early 1920s. The windows were later moved from the old turn of the century sister’s chapel (featured in photo above) 20-30 years ago and completely re-leaded and restored at that time.
The statuary preserved for inventory at King Richard’s warehouses are made of hand-carved wood by Mayer of Munich in the 1920s. They include a St. Anthony Statue, Pieta Statue, Ecce Homo Statue, and an Agony in the Garden panel.
The impressive antique marble set was also originally in the sister’s chapel (in photo above). The set includes an reredos, ambo, and tabernacle. The pure Carrara marbles in this set were enhanced with very fine-Italian-venetian gold foil mosaic details. The set is ideal for any adoration chapel, school chapel, or daily mass chapel.
Lastly, three lovely crucifixes were collected as well as an exceptional wooden panel set of Stations of the Cross.
