King Richard’s restorations can give your aging statuary the facelift it deserves! Freshen dingy surfaces, brighten faded countenances, repair damage to broken extremities – King Richard’s artisans can revive the hidden beauty of any piece!

Most often undertaken as part of a larger renovation in which King Richard’s is chosen as a turn-key service provider for a variety of specialty contracting services, restoration of statuary can be a cost effective method to retain the liturgical history of a religious community. After existing conditions of the piece(s) are evaluated, onsite tests are used to reveal the best option to refurbish the statue. The investigative work, teamed with King Richard’s comprehensive knowledge of virtually all finishes and materials, results in a superior restoration strategy.

Then King Richard’s artisans set to work lifting decades of grime off intricate carvings and delicate painted surfaces. They repair and restore damage left behind from the daily wear and tear of religious services, aging materials and environmental conditions. Unattractive layers of paint are stripped off and wood surfaces refinished to restore them to their intended sheen. Marble surfaces are polished until they gleam. Restorations also include broken marble or wood fingers, accessories, halos or even heads and arms of statues.

At King Richard’s our modern techniques honor and celebrate the quality craftsmanship of your statue’s original design and construction. We do not perform “paint-overs” on religious statues. Complete stripping of old, flaking, peeling paint is the correct way to restore a statue. When you paint over old finishes, the peeling and flaking will continue under the new paint

Wood statuary is a specialized art which requires proper painted or polychrome finishes. Stripping an old wood statue of its original finish and then varnishing it is not a proper restoration. If you desire artistic gold leafing or stenciling, you definitely need professionals experienced in this art. Ask and demand photo references of numerous previous works!

Restoring and polishing marble and bronze statuary is also performed by our craftsmen for our religious clients. We only work with religious icons. We do not repair mirrors, pottery, clock cases or cookie jars; we are a true liturgical arts company that focuses on our industry’s needs. We only offer restoration services to religious facilities, religious universities, schools, convents and monasteries.
